Foodmapper was developed by Somerset Community Food as a way of mapping land both currently in use and potentially available for use by community groups wanting to grow food. It was developed primarily to cover Somerset, but has been extended across the South West England region.

Formerly known as the National Society for Allotments and Leisure Gardeners, this is a members’ co-operative which protects, promotes and preserves allotments. It provides advice and information to both allotment holders and home gardeners. NAS has a legal team and can help draft non-standard agreements between councils or private landlords and allotment associations.

Finding Land: FCFCG

FCFCG Starter Pack

The Federation of City Farms and Community Gardens has a comprehensive Starter Pack which covers the often complex issues that can arise when setting up or developing a community garden. This is essential reading for anyone setting up a new community garden or related growing space. Chapter three of the pack has some tips and helpful advice on identifying a suitable site.

Please note, the pack will be updated in 2014 to a Community Growing Resource Pack, which will have separate editions for England, Scotland and Wales.
